• I am a Body Control Pilates trained teacher working in Herefordshire. I teach group sessions n Ross-on-Wye.

In my early 40s a friend encouraged me to go to a Pilates class. I was familiar with aerobics and gym work and had a membership which I failed miserably to use. Pilates became a habit. I looked forward to my weekly session and tried very hard to apply the principles of Pilates in my daily life.

My day job had taken its toll on my body and I was frequently troubled by neck, shoulder and low back problems, seeking advice from my GP and referral to therapists. As I continued with my Pilates practise I started to notice that I had fewer occurrences and when I did succumb I recovered more rapidly. I also noticed that I was standing taller, feeling stronger and felt more confident. I could really feel the impact of Pilates on my daily activities.

The years passed and just before my 50th birthday I took the plunge to train as a Pilates teacher with The Body Control Pilates Association. Eighteen months later, after much physical and theoretical study and examination I passed!

Since then I have been fortunate to work with many people with differing needs and goals. I have, year on year, studied to increase my skills and knowledge, which has impacted on my teaching, my clients and the classes I offer.

    Pre and Post Natal Mothers

Pilates is a wonderful way to prepare yourself for motherhood. Postural muscles and body awareness are improved. Aches and pains associated with pregnancy can be lessened. Relaxation skills, preparation for labour and laying the foundations to get your figure back after the birth are added bonuses of following a Pilates programme.

    Osteoporosis/Older Adults

Specialist knowledge to develop and differentiate mat work, seated and standing classes using a range of small equipment, working at a slower pace to develop, balance, mobility, strength, confidence and well-being for clients with a diagnosis of Osteoporosis.

Fall prevention - An excellent way to develop your balance, mobility, strength, confidence and well-being. Safely, mindfully and gently, controlling the movements using non-impact exercises whilst seated or standing. The use of small equipment makes the sessions fun and challenging.

    Beginners - Intermediate Matwork

A progressive introduction of the Principles of Pilates leading to consolidation and mastery.

    Small Equipment

A range of equipment - resistance bands, ova balls, circles, weights, foam rollers and spiky balls are used to have fun, enhance and challenge you in your practice.

Don't just take my word for it...

    Jim, Ross-on-Wye

I am a 54 year old local cricketer who took up Pilates last September with the aim of improving my core strength and prolonging my playing days as a wicket keeper. Delighted to report that my 'recovery time' after the first game of this season was just like it used to be as a teenager! I cannot recommend these sessions strongly enough.

    Karen, Ross-on-Wye

Penny is the best exercise teacher I have ever experienced. She is clear in her instructions, her weekly sessions are always varied and her attention to detail is excellent. She constantly checks everyone's positions and will correct you if necessary. Her calm and quiet manner adds to the relaxation of the class.

    Anonymous, Ross-on-Wye

I joined Penny's Pilates class as I am elderly and want to keep fit and well as long as I can. Penny teaches in a very caring manner and does not make you feel silly if you make a mistake, and is always aware of any physical problems her students might have. I feel more flexible and lively after class with a good feeling of wellbeing.

Thank you so much for all that you have taught, guided and cajoled me to do in your brilliant lessons. I can honestly say in all my years of ballet, contemporary dance and pilates, you have been, by a country mile, the best, most outstanding teacher.
